EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Established in 1934, the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority is the second largest housing authority in the State of New York. The agency is currently supporting the housing of approximately 10,000 individuals. BMHA is seeking a highly qualified candidate to lead and manage the agency’s budget of $40 million and a staff of 140. The agency’s portfolio includes 1444 housing choice voucher, 4265 public housing units and 1112 other affordable housing that is not public housing assisted.

The successful candidate should possess a Masters degree preferably in business administration, public administration, public finance, public policy, urban planning or a closely related field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of eight years of experience in leading or managing public housing or nonprofit I for-profit affordable housing. However, candidates with exceptional academic or experience backgrounds that compensate for an academic or experience deficiency may still be considered. Candidates must have, or commit to, obtaining with one year, the PHADA Executive Director Education Program or the NAHRO Certified Management Executive Certification. Exceptional knowledge, skills and abilities in leadership, management, business acumen, stakeholder engagement and communications must be demonstrated by the successful candidate. Finalists will be required to provide academic, work history and salary history verification. The consultant will complete the criminal and credit history background checks.

The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the New York State & Local Employees’ Retirement System. Compensation and fringe benefits are negotiable, depending on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. It is required that the selected Executive Director will establish residency in Buffalo.
