The Director of Finance position at the Municipal Housing Authority of the City of Utica, New York (UMHA)/People First offers an opportunity to contribute to the day-to-day and long-term viability of this agency. The UMHA/People First provides safe, high-quality affordable housing to residents in the City of Utica through its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and accountability.
The Director of Finance will lead UMHA/People First’s Finance Department, which is responsible for maximizing and strengthening the fiscal operations of a changing organization. The ideal candidate will participate in daily operations and use their financial acumen and experience to lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: finance, planning and budgeting, and administration.
Desired Education, Background & Competencies
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or related field including or supplemented by eighteen (18) semester credit hours in accounting and three (3) years of accounting or auditing experience involving the maintenance or auditing of double entry books of a business, including general ledger, or in maintenance of governmental agency books involving appropriation accounting and preparation of budget and financial reports, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
CPA and public housing experience preferred. Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and be insurable under the Authority’s plan. Must be eligible for coverage under the Authority’s fidelity bond.
Compensation is based upon the parameters set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and will be commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits include health and life insurance, retirement plan, and paid leave.
